Default AC vacuum line repair

First off, let me say that this is an awesome forum. I have learned a lot from my visits here and it is greatly appreciated.

The AC/heater controls in the 99 were not changing the air flow out the vents and after reading other posts, looked under the battery to find the vacuum line was broken and very brittle. It was obvious that the previous owner's battery had leaked and had not been cleaned up, just the battery replaced.

Anyway, I am now in need of advice on replacing/repairing this vacuum line. It is broken about 1 inch after it comes out of the loom and the line going to the bottom seems quite brittle.

What next? Thanks in advance.

Default

You can purchase plastic vacuum line at NAPA, AutoZone, Advance etc..You can replace the entire line or just use some rubber vacuum line and jumper in some new plactic line inplace of the bad plastic line

Just tape wrap the new line to the wiring harnesses.

Default Thanks so much

Thanks for the pics. Now I have a visual in my head about what needs to be done. I think a quick patch up for now is in the works...getting to that fitting on the back of the intake doesn't look like a fun job. Maybe some weekend when the snow is 10" deep around here.

Default I agree

It can be a real problem to get to without removing the intake. I actually followed the hose to a point on the firewall and cur it and attached the two pies (new and old) using I believe it was 1/4 inch vacumm hose as a splice and the ran a new piece of plastic hose to the fender tank area. As for the area where the tank is I simply removed the right fender and replaced all the hoses and fittings since I was in there. I cut the line about 1 inch from the firewall and used the same splice method. It looks alot harder than it is, once the fender is removed.

Default Crap!!!

Pulled of the RF wheel and the access cover. Quite the mess

Cant get very good access to the vacuum canister

There wasn't much left under the canister, the line comes out the bottom, takes a 90degree bend and from there all is gone.

I found a couple peices floating around in that area

I can not find the line coming from the back of the manifold. Where does it enter this area? There is a line that is coming out of a loom for about an inch before it broke off. It is marked with the red tape in this pic:

Is that the line going to the inside of the car? I assume so.

So quick summary of my questions:
Where might I find the remnants of the line coming from the back of the engine?
I agree that taking of the fender is a must to get everything cleaned up, I see the fasters on the top, bottom and rear of the fender, but what else needs to be done to remove the fender?
Any other advice.....it is much appreciated.

Default Weekend project at least

As I remember it I removed the small access panel under the front right side and used a 10mm to get the bracket and nuts off of the front of the fender. Sounds like you have all the others required. Be sure you align the front bumper carefully before re installing the bracket and front nuts. Below is the driver side but the passenger side is a mirror image. Make sure you clean the whole area with baking soda to nutralize any remaing acid, Wire brush and repaint the frame and would recommend while you are at it get some electrical spray cleaner and Disconnect and clean all the connectors you can find.

BTW There are several good threads with pictures in this forum if you do a forum search. I used battery leak

Default Half way home!!

Fender off, cleaned up with baking soda and water, cleaned up rust, painted, new vacuum lines extended, wire looms wrapped back up. Finding the vacuum source line in the loom was in fact a major pain...had to go all the way back into the engine compartment outside of the battery area to get a good peice of line.

Looks like the next couple days holds some cleaning and reinstallation of parts, and getting the fender back on.

Thanks for all your help on this issue!!!
