Default C5 power antenna problem

Hi, I have a power antenna that recently stopped working, the motor runs but the mast doesn't go up or down. Was going to pull the whole thing out and try to figure out what was wrong but can't figure out how to detach the antenna cable (coax I think) from the motor? If anyone can help with that, or has any suggestions on what might be wrong, please let me know.

Thanks,
Bob

Should be a connector a foot or two from the antenna!

The leads from the power antenna motor go through a cone shaped rubber grommet that penetrates into the trunk area. To disconnect and remove/replace the motor, you need to pry out the grommet. The connector is about 6 inches inside the trunk.

Bob,

The antenna has a power lead and a ground. If the motor is running then the problem shouldn't be wiring.

I'd say its the ribs on the antenna tail that have stripped so that the motor cant push it up properly. I posted a thread on how to replace the antenna. Take a look at the pics and you'll see what I mean.

Way cheaper than fitting a new assembly which is about $130

Try this:

Thank you all for the replies! Followed the easy instructions from DeeGee and when I pulled out the mast there was nothing attached to it - guess I'm pulling the motor apart. I also found the grommet and a new mast on ebay so once I get the mast I'll pull it out and replace it. Thanks again everyone!

No problem

When you get the replacement you'll see the "tail" is serrated nylon. If you've had a major failure there could be broken pieces inside the tube. Best to make sure its not in there or it'll restrict the movement. Hopefully you can clean it all out but you may have to take off the antenna assembly to tip it out.

Well I took the mast out and there was no tail at all so I took the motor assembly out and the covers are retained with what looks like 4 plastic studs. My question is how do I get that cover off? Or, how do I get the old tail out so I can put the new mast with tail in?

Thanks!
