Climate Control button backlighting out -could it be a fuse?
I noticed last night that the climate control buttons (not the screen) are out on my C5. There is a small part that stays lit, near the temp gauge where it shows blue to red. Other then that area the rest of the backlighting for the buttons are out. Could this be a fuse that has blown, or do I have to relpace something behind the unit itself? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
My guess would be a bulb in the unit needs replaced.
Mine did the same thing...plus the LCD screen started to fade (did the resistor/solder thing) but then months later...the power/on/off button would intermittently work and the driver side **** no workey! Ack!
Ordered a new one a couple of weeks and just installed it this past weekend. Just in time for winter.
BTW I got mine from Gene culley, a sponsor on this forum. He has great prices and great (quick) service. I think he's running a deal for orders just for today....do a search...
Thanks for the responses! I recently had the display fixed because of the dimming problem, so I don't want to have to replace the entire unit if I don't have to. I presume the bulb in the unit can be replaced without having to replace the whole unit itself, right?
Well if one blows then the rest start to blow after that. That is what happened to me. If you feel like doing it yourself, these are the bulbs that are close to what is in there now.

Yes. You have to remove the unit and open it up. Pull the board Directly behind the face of the controller and un-solder the old bulbs and solder in the new bulbs. Either that or buy another unit. You can find used ones for sale. See new ones sell for 250-300 bucks.
I bought one here online for $120 a month ago. Mine was acting up.

Look at http://www.spdkilz.com in the tech tips for instructions on converting to LED's. If you do not have any experience soldering do not do the HVAC.
There are instructions there for changing most of the interior lights to LED.
You should consider replacing the lamps in the radio at the same time as they too will be burning out shortly..same lamps. I used those same lamps a long while back on mine and they worked out real nice. You must remove the plastic surrounds on them and unsolder the wire leads attached in order to get to just the bulb itself.

I have a bit of soldering experience from when I was in high school. I remember good soldering requires a delicate hand.
