What would cause the torque tube to keep failing? I brought it back to the dealer yesterday after hearing a metallic noise above 3k rpms.
The service manager told me the tranny was shot because its hard to get in gear, and the noise i was hearing was a bearing. I call bs, as the noise is coming from way up front by the shifter. Anyone have any idea what could be causing these problems? Could it possibly be something else rattling under there?
Not sure what "torque tube to keep failing" actually means, but my guess....your tranny is fine and your driveshaft is shot. I had the same issue a few years ago. Driveshaft twisted inside the torque tube and it actually tore a whole in the tube. The car was quite unless I brought the rpms up, then it squeeled like a pig!
Wife and I drove from Palm Dessert to Santa Monica in 3rd gear the whole way, even from stops. It was the tube.
Nickolbag, one of our fellow forum members just twisted his too.
Yeah I've heard this noise before when the driveshaft failed! I'm trying to figure out why i would go through 3 driveshafts in less than a year though. This car is costing me more than its worth!

Bring it to another shop or dealership.
Have them check and replace (depending on the condition) the three bearings on the driveshaft as well check/replace the crankshaft pilot bearing too. Of course the two rubber couplers need looking over too.

This was a whole rebuilt setup I bought from a forum member, and the pilot bearing was replaced. I haven't even had it in the car 4 months and its going already! It's not cheap or easy to fix either, C5's are horrible to work on when it comes to the drivetrain.
Your close, bring it in & we can find what the problem is. Dealers work on them part-time.....good shops work on them full time & see pretty much every issue possible. You won't be disapointed.
