I have read on this forum about pinning the balancer to the crank snout. Is there a kit / how to write up on how this is done? Is it something I can do in my garage? I am planning a heads / cam swap over the winter, and will be adding an underdrive pulley, so the front & top of the engine will be apart. Thanks
ECS sells a kit that I used for my car it was right around $100 bucks but make sure you get a solid carbite drill bit it will make the job easy instead of use 10 crappy drill bits
Since your replacing the crank pulley this is the time to pin it.
ATI makes the best balancer out there and they also sell a pinning kit that includes the proper drill.

I pinned my balancer when I installed my vortech. You are welcome to borrow jig when the times comes. All you have to come up with is the pin.
It seems that there are ample kits out there for pinning....have to admit I am suprised at the cost ($100.00).
Sorry to say the pinning is the easiest part .....getting to the dampner is where the work is. To get an idea of what is involved go to Magna Charger.com and down load the installation manual for the SC intercooled version. Starting at about page 4 and ending at about page 10...shows you the procedure for removing the rack/pinion steering from in front of the dampner (you cant get to the dampner because of the rack/pinion).
From my own experience I would replace the crank oil seal at the same time....this requires you to remove the dampner to get to the seal .....but this is better than going through the same process at a later time when the seal starts to leak (they all do at some point)....after you have done this and reinstalled the dampner then pin it.
It is definately do-able and not that hard.....if you do decide to do it let me know and I can give you some ideas about making the process easier.
