Default Do Corvettes have limited slip diffs?

I was just wondering if my 99' C5 had a limited slip diff. The reason I'm asking is because I got stuck in a ditch and only had one tire fire and also when i did a small burnout I only left one mark. Opinions?

technically yes,but the purpose of a limited slip differential is to apply
positive traction to both wheels and allow turning to be easier, with out
the clutch packs being able to slip it would be a PITA to make turns.
If the clutch packs are burnt up only one tire will spin.

Well I'll do another test to find out. I'll keep you guys posted. I only have 65k miles on the car... Couldn't imagine it already being blown out.

Limited slip does not mean NO slip (like a locker or a spool). You may still get some slippage to the other wheel depending on conditions.

I don't know if the vette rear is similar but the limited slip diff in my tahoe went out. Only one wheel would provide traction. The shop said there is a actuator in the rear that engages the clutch pack and powers both wheels at a certain rpm in the rear by centrifugal force. This little cam actuator broke.

I believe they are different, I believe yours is actually referred to as a
locking differential on the truck line which is different from the limited slips
in the c-5

True,
but he should still eventually should be leaving 2 marks,
One way to test is to jackup the passenger side only, making sure the
driver side is still on the ground and try to spin the the tire by hand
it should be very difficult to turn. It should not be able to free spin.
Do the same thing for the driver side making sure the passenger side
is still on the ground it should also be difficult to spin and not free spin,
if they free spin than you have clutch pack issues, possibly other dif
issues also .

There are clutch packs on each output shaft of the Diff. On each clutch pack is a thick metal washer. Either the washer is split or the clutch packs are worn! Either way, it going to require rearend service.

If the washer is split you should know by now. They will usually trash the clutch packs in a couple days. it also lets the shafts rock back and forth because you dont have a clutch pack anymore and all the metal will trash the bearings and it will be very loud. Most likely the clutches are just wore out. Not a big deal you can do it by yourself. Use the new c6z06 clutch packs as they are much tighter.
