Default New HID Gremlin

2002 vert MN6
Installed low beam HIDs, appeared to go in with out any issues. Kit worked as advertised. Have seen several issues posted by others ranging from HIDs not firing to having to have high beams on to close the headlight doors.

Thought I was home free until I noticed that when I got out or the car after my checkout run, the door chime would come when I opened the door. Went round and round could not find anything on that would cause the chime to sound. There were no codes generated. I disconnected the battery and then reconnected it and sure enough no more chime, until I turned on my lights. Could not sleep, just knew that I had screwed up my car.

Finally I heard a very faint humming noise from the right side, between the fuse box and the headlight assembly. Found that by removing Fuse F10 HDLOBML the noise would stop. Reinsert the fuse and no more chime. When I plugged F10 back in you would hear the headlight assembly motor come on for a split second. Remembered reading that some are having to turn on high beams on to get headlight doors to close. Tried that and sure enough, no more door chime when the key is removed.

Hope this will help so that someone else will not be up all night worrying.

Has anyone else seen this, maybe even a fix other than using the high beams.

Can anyone tell me what F10 controls? Is it the drive motor for the headlight door? Would like to see a schematic of the circuit.

push your turn signal stalk toward the front of the car to activate your high beams for a second or so. The chime should go away as I had the same problem with my car until I figured it out.

I am having the same problem. F10 is the 10 amp fuse which controls you head light power only. From what I have gathered HID require 10-12 amp of current to get started, since there is only a 10 amp now, there is a great possibility to blow again. One suggestion was to replace with a 15 amp ( which I am not in favour) and the other suggestion was to install a harness relay which is hard wired directly into the battery from the ballasts. There is also a new type of HID which incorporates a digital ballast that only needs 8 amps to power up the lights. I am presently leaning towards a relay harness for about $25-$30.

Guys,

Do a search in General for HID.
These issues have been discussed and resolved in a variety of ways.
It is all about voltage and wattage.

Look at a good one , around post 97
