Anyone know why, when installing a new short throw shifter, it requires the removing of the old shifter pivot bushing/cup and attaching it to the new shifter? I would think that it may be worn or damaged. If so, where can we obtain another pivot bushing. Local Chev dealer tells me that it does not show a separate part number for the bushing. Do you have to order the whole assembly?
Second, can the rubber insultator/gasket, that goes between the shifter and tunnel for the stock shifter, be ordered separately? Thanks.
Speaking to the gasket issue...you can make your own out of silicone RTV. My gasket had the typical tears with R&R, so I used a thin layer of black RTV (PERMATEX or 3M) over the top of the gasket. It's not likely that you'll have lots of transmission fluid coming out of that area. Most after market shifters come with a new gasket, usually made of thin plastic.
I would think that since GM doesn't offer the plastic bushing as a separate part, they must not think it's a wear item.

I first checked two automotive parts stores who stated that GM was the sole provider of the pivot bushing . I've checked with two local GM parts houses (dealerships), and Gene Culley at GMpartshouse.com and the consensus is the fact that the bushing is part of the assembly and not available from GM separately . In fact, all shifter mods have you remove the bushing and put on the new shifter. I had the stock shifter in a vise trying to pry the bushing off. The shifter fell from the vise , hit the floor, right on the bushing and it split into two pieces. I was able to glue it with superglue, but I'm not comfortable with it this way.
Why won't the shifter mod folks provide replacement pivot bushings! if GM doesn't have them? They provide plastic gaskets to replace black RTV. There seems to be a demand. Any entrepreneurs out there?
It's a long shot, but you might try the other Gene at GENE'S KAR SHOP.
He's also a site supporting vendor listed in the column to the left on the main menu page. He deals in used Corvette parts.
There's been some members in the classifieds lately parting out C5/Z06 cars for parts. You might get lucky there, but they might require you buy the entire oem shifter.
Good luck! Finding this part might be as frustrating as finding the thin plastic trim ring that's glued/stapled to the bottom of the oem shift boot. It's not available separately either.

The shifter mod folks don't provide them because they can't
get them separately from GM.
This is strictly a bean-counter issue. All the car companies are
trying to minimize the astronomical number of replacement
part numbers they have to inventory, so they are using more
and more assemblies as single part numbers, and then buying
the whole assemblies from suppliers.
Now, if someone can find out who the supplier of the shifter
is, you might be able to buy a box full of pivots and go into
business...

Yeah, but the whole shift boot with trim ring is under $20
brand new, so it's not like having to buy a $100 shifter to
get a 50 cent plastic bushing.
I've haven't seen any oem shifters being sold for $100 in the classifieds...anyway here's one thread where a member is parting out his car...you might find the bushing there... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1884932
I guess my point was that if you wanted to be sure to get a
new part, and not a used part, you had to buy a whole
new shifter assembly.
...which brings up a another potential source...with all of the people who recently purchased the complete C6/Z06 shifter assembly from GMPARTSHOUSE, there should be someone with one of the bushings.
That assembly came with the "box" in addition to the shifter, so the bushing should have been included.
Maybe the original poster should post a classified ad specifically requesting a shifter bushing/button?
