I'm looking at a set of BBK shorty headers. I prefer the shorties to the LTs at the moment simply because of cost, and the fact that i'd like to install them myself.
What's involved in doing the swap myself? I also want to throw on a set of high flow cats. Should I attempt this mysefl or let an exhaust shop do it?
Without getting into the "shorty vs. LT debate" This car is a street machine and rarely sees above 5K rpm. While LTs provide optimum peak power, shorties are perfectly fine for a street car.
Lets just assume for a moment that i was getting headers (either shorties or LTs) What would my parts list look like for installation: gaskets etc.
Many of us will disagree with this statement.........I had B&B shorties and verified 11 rwhp on the dyno
Sorry about the blunt statement, but what I meant was that by the time you install the shorty's , X pipe and hight flow cats you will nearly spend the same amount as for long tube package. Long tube will give a better bang for the buck and better breathing plus more HP.
true, plus since i'm wanting more umph in the low end, looks like i need LTs. I've read mixed reviews about the ebay SS LT headers, and i may give them a shot. Plus they seem to work well with performance-curve high flow cats.

i'm installing the same set-up as we speak using my stock h-pipe with the performance-curve cats. if your have average mechanical skills it shouldn't be to bad

Are you re-using your stock gaskets? Will i need any special tools/adapters? Are you having to re-route move anything? I read somthing about the passenger side having clearence issues with the AC line.
I out the LG streets on and to my amazement, they went in with no fight at all. I did have a lift to help so that cut out on some time but overall it was a very easy install

i bought all new gaskets for the install no special tools but if your using your stock h-pipe u will need something to cut off the section with the old cats attached to it. i bought a electric cut-off wheel from the local hardware store for about 20 bucks. the a/c line is really close on the passengers side,i put some extra heat sheilding over it just in case but it is a close fit.
