If it is just the key fob, it doesn't cost that much to replace. I didn't have one when I bought my car. I just bought one from an auction site and then programmed it (pretty easy with instructions). Probably around $70.

Advice, like other things, is always free....FWIW I replaced the FOB transiever($$$$), put new bateries in the FOB($), and had the same problems. Finally ran the FOB battery down. I now unlock the car with the key! BTW 99 coupe .... FOB replacement is serious $. Saving for track mods! Your choice.
Your choice. does the alarm still activate? or no?

My '98 did the same thing, didn't matter where the passive switch was. The car would sit in the garage with the keys hanging in the kitchen and it would lock and un-lock all night long. I bought a new fob from Gene and now the key-less works just fine.

do yourself a favor and get an aftermarket alarm. The c5 fob's always fail. They suck. and you will have to reprogram it to your car. so spend either $75 for a new fob that will fail again, or $150 for a new alarm.
