Hi! I am trying to replace the theft deterrent relay in my 2002....thought it was under the driver dash, but haven't seen it there. Then saw someone say passenger side footwell. I have most of the bottom part of the driver dash apart....anyone out there can give me the location? I have part 12177233 which I believe is correct.
Help!! Want to get most of the car back together tonight if I can!
Thanks....not sure if I actually replaced the correct one..it was next to the passenger fuse box, and a PITA to get at, but the car starts, which is a good thing. Whether it continues to start will be the next. At least I know how to rip apart the driver side dash...grrrrrrrr

You're now a qualified "expert" on the driver's side panels.
So, to restate, the TDR is located in the passenger footwell area behind the toe board. It is located above the BCM module, and you will see the backend or socket where the TDR plugs into. The socket has four wires, a red and purple/violet wires, and a smaller gauge yellow and yellow/black stripped wire's. It is the relay that sends power to the starter solenoid to crank the engine, it is the very first thing to check if your car will not crank.
Does the tdr connect to the head unit? Someone said it will trip if it’s removed. Did some work on the stereo and car won’t start after.
Both 40 amp ignition fuses in the footwell have power. Battery is charged to 12.8 volts. Just trying to diagnose the problem before I start taking stuff apart.
The TDR have only one function, and that is to send power to energize the starter, there is something else wrong if the head unit doesn't work.
the head unit works fine, power when I turn the key on. Started doesn’t engage. The 40 amp ignition fuses have power. Seems like a battery cable, starter, or tdr. Im trying to figure out where to work on it. Read on Facebook that the tdr is connected to the head unit, and if you work on it you can trip the circuit. Curious if it had something to do with that.
I looked for it with no luck so I figured I’d ask here.
Well if it was written on Facebook it must be true, but seriously thou, can you hear the TDR click on when you turn the key to the start position of the Ignition switch, verify this and post back and we can go from there.
Next thing to check is fuse 52. It's a 60 amp fuse that provides power on the red wire of the TDR. Check for 12v on the violet wire of the TDR when the TDR clicks on, the violet wire makes it's way to the starter solenoid and should energize the starter.
The fuse is fine.
It looks like the tdr was rewired with two red. As it’s mounted, the left side had power and the right side no power when turning the key to start. I checked each wire and only got power to one. I’m trying find the wiring chart in the manual to see if I can find it better by location.
Seems pretty simple that the TDR contacts are not sending power to energize the starter, and the TDR should be replaced, they are available at most auto parts stores.
A thought occurred to me, are you sure you have identified the correct relay? The TDR should have 4 wires, a red, violet, and two smaller gauge yellow wires, one of the yellow wires should have a black strip.
I was checking the wrong relay. What system is that?
the tdr was behind it and came out then I pulled the first one out.
Went to the parts store to get the stock one before removing the old one. Come to find out it’s a different plug pattern than the one they sold me. It’s the same relay as the other one down there. I’m going to replace them both. Seems like typical stuff that happens.
"The TDR relay sits on top of the BCM in the passenger footwell area. The socket that the TDR plugs into has a heavy gage red and violet wire, as well as smaller gage yellow, and yellow with a black strip wires. The TDR is the relay that sends power to energize the starter, make sure the car is in Park or neutral and insert a wire jumper between the red and violet wires, if it cranks its the TDR, if it doesn't most likely your starter solenoid is at fault, hope this helps, make sure the car is in park or neutral because doing this bypasses does requirements. Hope this helps."
