I'm about to venture into the murky world of DIY alignments, I have a camber gauge, a toe gauge, and an entire off-season to tinker. The only question I have is how do I not screw up the castor? How is it adjusted? How is it measured? Is it something I even have to worry about?

I thought most camber gauges also had a caster scale. I think you rotate the wheel on a baseplate and measure the change in angle to get the caster. It does need to be close to the same across the car, but camber and toe-in are what affects tire wear, not caster. Caster does affect how the wheels return to center, and if the car tracks straight.
If you do a search on DIY alignment, there should be some internet articles on exactly how to check and adjust caster. On a Corvette, all the adjustments are made with the two cams on the lower arm, so it can be a little tricky.
