Default Flycutting Tools

Here are some pictures of the Lindy Tool In Head Piston Cutters (IHPC). I have no connection to the company that manufactures these other than a satisfied user. They are great tools and I wanted to share another option available for in-block piston flycutting.

Features:
1. Will fit in a disassembled head, down to the valve seat without modification to the cutter or head.
2. Provide a radius cut in the piston
3. Radial clearance built into the cutter, typically .090
4. Come in exact valve sizes for an exact fit
5. Manufactured of M-2 tool steel for long life, can be resharpened if you cut that many pistons
6. Guide rods available in metric sizes, i.e. 8mm for LSx engines
7. The back side of the cutter is shaped like a valve to reduce the chance of damage to the valve seat and valve job
8. Guide rod stops for setting cutting depth

Dave Lindy is a super nice guy that has some great information to share. He makes the tools himself and will do custom configurations if requested.

They are priced as follows:

Cutter: $78.50 (Valve size specific)
Guide Rod: $28.00 (Valve guide size specific)

If you needed to cut both intake and exhaust and wanted to do both at the same time, you would purchase the following:

2 valve size specific cutters
2 valve guide size specific guide rods

or you could buy one guide rod and swap cutters for each valve.

Very nice, how do you set depth?

I notice some "Dart green tape" in the pictures too

That's right, those are the 225's that I'm installing next week.

As already noted, the tools come with collars to set the depth.

How deep are you cutting them? Doesn't look like a lot.

I cut mine .100" deep.

Also, be sure to sand down the sharp corners of the cuts before you call it done.

Your correct, I only needed .040" on the intake side. Will do on sharp edges.
