Default removing calipers for powdercoat?

Hey all,

Gonna be pulling my calipers in the next day or so to have them powdercoated, i thought i read somewhere that removing the calipers and not sealing up the lines can cause problems with the ABS, is this correct, and if so how do you combat this problem, thanks in advance!

You can pinch the rubber lines with a clamp or vice grips. make sure to install new crush washers on the re assembly bleed the lines and your good to go. If corvette pilot is doing them you will be extremely happy.

If you do it this way make sure you replace the rubber brake lines. Personally I like the VBP Stainless Steel Brake line kit.

I used some little rubber vacuum line caps from an auto store, and kind of pushed them into the block connector - it worked ok - I also zip tied them up as high as I could to prevent gravity drain. My reserve never drained all the way which I think is the main goal (otherwise air will enter from the reserve and get into the system which takes a while to ckear out.

At worst case, even if the fluid runs out, you'll just have to fill, flush, and clear the ABS of potential air (Tech II or some ABS activated stops and reflush!).

I did my calipers and rotors and it took a little extra effort to clear the system of air, but eventually it flushed and everything works great.

FYI - even though the calipers will fit either left or right, you want to make sure you orient the bleeder valve +up+. If not, air trapped in the caliper will never clear out! Both the fronts and the rears have an up orientation (the fronts are a little more obvious).

Good luck!

Oh yeah, in case you don't have it handy:

Brake line inlet 30 ft-lbs
Bracket bolt red locktite and 125 ft-lbs
Guide pin bolt blue locktite and 23 ft-lbs

(Brush the threads of the bolts with a wire brush before re use)

I didn't seal anything for two months and had no problems.
