Default Underdrive pulley and battery charging...

how much effect will an underdrive pulley have on battery charging?

Reason I ask is there is one on the car....never reads over 12.7-13.2 on the DIC and the car sounds weak when you crank it sometimes. Charging system checks out OK. Battery is just 2 years old...36 mo battery. I know you never get 36 mos but this has been doing this for awhile now. No excessive stereo etc in the car.

Oh yeah if you hook it to a trickle charger it charges for a bit then the charger says TROUBLE.....so am I looking at a battery issue?

TIA

I suggest you take it to an auto parts store. They will pull a check on the battery and alternator for nothing for you. That way there is no guessing or fooling around wasting time on what ifs. I have an under drive pulley and have never had an undercharging problem.

I have an ATI Superdamper, but it's only 10% underdriven... no issues here after 10,000+ miles.

Nice to know as I just installed a stereo/amp, and plan to include an underdrive pulley as part of my engine mods in the near future....

Had mine installed for about 2 weeks now and the voltage is still the same as it was prior. I wrote down where all the guages were prior to the install to verify nothing was messed up.

Gotta be the yellow car.

I agree, load test the battery, it's probably junk.

Well then, hope it is bad. (and hope you have your receipt).

Optima has a 3 yr replacement warrenty..so if it does test bad and won't hold a charge, at least you'll get a new one.

btw, I know it had to be your car YV...even Pewter ain't dumb enough to run a UD pulley with a blower.

I actually had a red top give me a similar issue. I know autozone tested mine and just gave me new one afterwards.

Got another 36 month warrenty on the new one too
