Just got the car out for a little run to keep the battery up, and the oil temp readout on the DIC remained "LOW" despite other readouts confirming that normal operating temperatures had been reached. (The car was operated for about an hour, city streets and freeway.)
Do you have a reduced temperature thermostat installed with modified cooling fan operation?
Exactly what temperature was your DIC reading? If it stayed "LOW", then this is a temperature glich in the programing. LOW comes on when you start the car under 23 F (I think) and it won't read correctly until you restart the car.
Lots of people find this setup unsuitable for winter (low temperature driving). If you oil temperature stays too low (under 200-212 F) then you will not burn off moisture and contaiminates in your oil. You will see increased engine wear.

Anybody got experience with this?
Thanks!
Yeah. As said above, it's a normal "glitch" in the system.
If you start the car when it's very cold, and the oil temp is below about 20* or so, the oil temp display will only show "low" instead of an actual number. The glitch, is that this will remain on the display during that ignition cycle no matter how warm the oil gets.
If you shut the car off once warmed up, and restart, the display should resume a normal oil temp reading.

Yes, I suspect the oil temp was lower than 20 degrees at start up. However, I stopped and restarted the engine several times during my time on the road (running errands, etc.) No changes in the thermostat or programming, the car is stock in that regard. I wondered if "LOW" was a default if the oil temp sensor went bad or a connection had popped off. I will get the car out again tomorrow if the temps remain somewhat warm (for Colorado in the winter.)

And how much snow do you have there in the Springs? what is the outside temp?
That has a lot to do with your oil and coolant temp
It must have been the default, as suggested, because when I fired it up to run another errand it was reading fine.
Thanks for the assistance and the education.
Not much snow on the ground here, just remnants of storms over the past couple of weeks, but it's COLD. Only in the 20s today, it was low single digits last night.

Damn that is cold.
My brother and his family live in the springs, not far from Galley and Academy streets
