I have an unkown noise coming from underneath my car (2001 triple black, convertible, 6 speed). It is definitely not a squeak or rattle. I hear it usually when I first pull out, in first or second gear, and going straight. It sounds like two metal rods clacking against each other, or like a metal rod bouncing off the concrete. Pushing in the clutch doesn't effect it. I have jacked up the car front and back and can't find anything loose. I have checked the sway bar in back and it was tight. No other performance issues with the car.
The C5/Z06 exhaust uses two heavy springs (for resonance?). It's possible they've either weakened or broken from heat cycling. As I recall, they're just behind the bellhousing. This is a common noise complaint. You could try "search this forum" (in the red banner) in C5 Tech, using keywords "jingling noise" or similar.
You might have something loose on the undercarriage (sway bar end links) or something is clanging around in the heat shield just above your exhaust system and below the torque tube. It's a favorite place for bolts/tools to fall when someone has been working on the shifter.

Driveline rattling/chattering noises are common with the C5 drivetrain. Are you sure you're not hearing the normal low RPM rattle these cars make? Mine is most noticable when taking off slowly.
the vette doctor in Melbourne, Florida figured it out...it was a broken tire sensor flopping around in the right front tire (he thinks it was cracked when the put the new tires on, and says you have to be careful....the weird thing was that I was still getting a good reading on the dash, because they are battery powered and send out an RF signal...the vette doctor is awesome!
Yeah, weird problem. Usually the tire installers know when they've ruined one, but sounds like this broke off on its own. Thats a first as far as I've ever heard.
