Hey guys, my '99 coupe started showing "left front tire flat" but it wasn't flat. The tire pressure has always read about 3 psi lower than normal. No problems with other TPMs. I did a search and followed the training procedure, and the left front trained, but I cannot get the right front to train. I have a very strong magnet, and I've tried it over and over. Since training the left front it is reading accurate pressure now and no longer hrowing the "flat" code when I drive it. The other pressure readings are blank. Any ideas before I go to the stealership? Thanks guys!
When doing the tire re-train try SLOWLY backing the magnet away from the tire/TPS.....
This worked for me..
Thanks ICUALL. Tried it very slowly and it didn't work. Also tried something just for the heck of it; after the right front wouldn't train, I stepped back tot the right rear and it trained, then the left rear trained. Tried the left front again and nothing. Thanks for your response!
On my high-mileage '99, I had one tire pressure transmitter go bad a couple of years ago. The micro-switch inside decided to stick therefore it wouldn't activate anymore. New transmitter, no more problems.
I am pretty sure you need a new sensor as that one is prob bad, the others arent far behind, dont go to the dealer they will tell you the same thing I just told you and charge you $70 for it.
Thanks guys. All is well, Landers Chevy here in Benton AR took care of me. RF sensor was bad. $170 out the door but I was ready to get r done.
For future reference the TPS for a 99 is $86 from a Forum Vendor (more expensive than the later model C5s) and a tire shop would change it for a few $$.
As your sensors are starting to go bad the others may follow (the battery life is about7 years or so). You may want to buy online and have the rest done at a tire shop once they start to fail. You'll save a few $$.
