C-5 clutch question:
Two questions: Has anyone had this adjustment done ?
If so, what condition prompted the adjustment, and did you notice any change afterward?
The reason I am asking is that I now have 140 thou on my 99, and am thinking, "Well, doing the adjustment can't hurt." Or might it ?
thanx
I had the clutch in my 02 start slipping on the dyno last spring. I had a DTE differential I was going to install and decided to replace the clutch at the same time since I was most of the way there anyhow. When I pulled the stock clutch, it looked brand new. It even still had the lettering on the disc. I have often wondered if making the adjustment in the service manual would have corrected the slipping condition I was running into and have asked here several times if anyone had tried this to remedy a clutch problem but have yet to hear from anyone who has. With stock exhaust it would be pretty easy, unfortunately with headers its a pain because you can't get the inspection plate off without header removal.

So why do you ask? Is your clutch slipping?
But if doing the mechanical adjustment can afford the prospect of another 50 k miles or so, it would seem worthwhile. (As long as it doesn't HURT anything)
That's what I'm hoping to find out here .............

Put another way..if you have even front tire wear, and the car drives a straight as an arrow, would you take it in to have the alignment checked?
If you are not doing any performance mods that will increase HP/TQ......just enjoy the car.

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
2. Remove the engine flywheel inspection cover retaining bolts.
3. Remove the engine flywheel inspection cover.
4. Have an assistant press in the pedal until tension is released from the clutch pressure plate stepped adjusting ring, then continue to hold the pedal.
5. Hold 2 screwdrivers or other suitable tools, and place them against 2 of the 3 stepped adjusting ring tension spring stops, just ahead of the adjusting ring tension springs. (The 3 slots are located at the center of the p/p)
6. Using the screwdrivers, rotate the stepped adjusting ring counterclockwise (compressing the tension springs) until the adjusting ring steps are fully adjusted out, then continue to hold in position.
7. Have your assistant release the clutch pedal.
8. Release the adjusting ring tension spring stops.
