Garage charge for headers install....
I was quoted $600.00 by local tuner to install a set of LG Street headers on my 2000 FRC. Is that a decent price? I'm considering installing myself but don't know for sure.

That's way high. An experienced shop should do it in around 3 hrs. X labor rate, even at $100/hr, would be half that, if you supply everything. Unless, he's including a tune or other extras.

Do it yourself!!
I installed headers, x-pipe and rockers on my wife's car in about 4 1/2 hours (with her help) and didn't really rush (It was my second header install however)
It is a very simple job with very little danger of damaging anything intricate (as opposed to installing a cam or rear end)The thrill you get from doing it yourself, especially when you FIRE THAT BABY UP before you hook up the exhaust, is somthing you'll always be proud off.
(And the $600 can be put towards a couple of weeks worth of gas)

It's not that hard to DIY. Save the money for a nice dinner with the wife and more mods.

A friend of mine was also quoted $600 for the R&R. I think that is absolutely ridiculous! If you have any mechanical experience at all, give it a shot. Its really not that hard. And if you run into any issues, there are so many threads that explain how to do it.

Shops around here charge between $400-425 for a header install.

That's what shops charge out here in Northern CA($550-600), plus $375-400 for a tune..This by a reputable LS1 tuner.
I was also quoted $350 by a some flaky-*** guy at some no-name shop who was really bad about returning phone calls etc. I went with the reputable, more responsive tuner and couldn't be happier.
