With only 1,300 miles on the recent oil change (using Mobil 1), tonight the low oil light came on. It was hard to read the dip stick although oil was clearly visible in the "zone". Of course I quickly added a quart, and the light was out on the restart. Later, after the car was cool and sat for awhile the level was up to the fill mark.
Is this sensitivity typical for a quart low? First time this happend to me in two years, approx. 31,000 mi. total on the '04.
If the oil level was getting "low", and the car was parked on a slope, it is quite possible the oil level was low enough to trigger the sensor. Once back on flat ground, it reads higher than it did on the slope. My g/f has a driveway steep enough that I occasionally see a "LOW OIL" warning when starting the car, but back on level ground it is fine.
I primed the filter and added the 6.5 qts as recommended by the book. After a few weeks I had the oil light on corners. Did the same as you and topped it off with another pint and no problems since.
