Default Tire Sensor Life

How long do tire pressure sensors last? I have some 58,000 miles on my 1999 C5 coupe and the sensors are still working flawlessly, but I can't help but think their days are numbered.

And where is a good (cheap) place to buy replacement sensors?

Thanks,

Jason

Only had one sensor go belly up on my 98. That said they are all probably going to fail soon.

Here is a link a post that has sensor prices. Scroll down you'll find the old style listed.

Try fleabay as well if you want to save some bucks. Search for corvette tire pressure sensor and you will have plenty of them, new, old and refurbished ones.

I had 110,000 miles -7 years before one sensor failed. The other three are still going strong. I maybe wrong, but I believe that the sensor shuts off when the car is parked and activates when the car starts moving to save the batteries.

Series I sensors (1997-2000) should last about 7 years or 100,000 miles.

Series II sensors (2001-2004) should last about 10 years.

So, yes, your 1999 TPSs are close to going bad.

But there is always the exception. Yours have lasted a long time. Best place to buy is from Gene at GMPartsHouse.com.

The battery in these sensors do not always "die" I have only had 3-4 sensors out of 150+ have an actual low battery (2.80v and lower) the others have no lower than 2.95 volts left in it after 10 yrs, what happens 98% of the time is the battery acid leaks out (when they get old) and shorts the battery out which in return shorts the sensor out. Some ppl get lucky and have 100K+ miles on their 97's with orignal sensors still on them and other have had their 50K mile 2000's sensors go out....

I just replaced all 4 sensors on my 98 coupe. I purchased new chrome wheels so I thought it was best to bite the bullet while I had the mounted on the new rims. I did'nt want to have to take them apart in a year or so. I bought them new from Gene at GMpartshouse.com . If you choose to go with rebuilt, go with Corvette Don.

Thanks for all the responses to my TPS life question.

Are the TPSs easy to install and can most tire shops do this?

Thanks,

Jason
