I did a search on past posts on this subject and really didn't get an answer. Based on those threads I checked my codes in the glove box and found that I have 2:73's (thought I had 3:15). This is an 04 C5 coupe.
I had posted an earlier thread about having some extra cash and asked what should I spend the $'s on in your opinion and I got a lot of great advise. It came down between a cam or changing the gear ratio. I was just about ready to go for the deal on the cam when I checked the gearing and thought maybe I need to do the gears first for best bang for the buck.
Question is; am I on the right track here? And if so where should I go? 3:42 or 3:73? This car is a "3rd" car and I don't plan on very long trips with her. I also plan on a tune after this (I understand that I HAVE to do this with a gear swap).
I'm sitting here in my office with my Dynatech Supermaxx system sitting on the floor along with the Corsa system and the Vararam that all gets installed next week. Wife wants to know if I plan on having sex with mod's on the floor and I said that I hadn't thought about that but I like the way you think!!
Also she wants to know if there is such as a thing as "MA" - Mod's Anonymous that is a 12 step program?
The forum needs a mods anonamous section. The problem is that we encourage each other to continue. Very addicting hobby. I got into the same thing with my bike and finally ran out of steam after several years. Now its the car. Still, its a lot of fun and not illegal.
She believes it is a disease. I just bought this vette the weekend before x-mas and I have already spent ~$2600 for performance mod's and $1000 for added looks and they are not installed yet. I'm a pretty thrifty person (paid cash for the car) and I can't believe how much this forum has caused me in dollar terms.

Reason: spelling
Yes you are on the right track--I would deff go for the rear dif change--I wouldn't waste my time and $$ on a 3.15 though I would go with a 3.42 You can find fairly new complete units that are Z06 take-offs pretty reasonable--I paid only $500 for mine with 12k miles on it--
AND while you have the diff out--its only 8 or 10 bolts more and you can change out your converter to a higher stall---The combination of a stall & a 3.42 will make it a beast out of the hole--even with a stock motor !! I didn't go nuts on my stall--i bought a 2600--which is a mild stall doesn't overheat and around town hardly notieable-but when you nail it --then it comes alive--My new converter was $350 (Phoenix Transmissions)
It works great--It is a stock diameter converter--I wanted to get away from the smaller more popular ones as I've read that they tend to overheat and the TCC unit is so small that it fails
