Default Installing fast intake?

When installing a fast intake on a 98 do you have to upgrade the coolant lines to the newer style (ls6 coolant lines)?

Yes, the coolant line that runs under the intake will no longer fit with the FAST in place.

One of the forum GM parts vendors can get them for you. Also, once you install the front pipe (the rear are block off plates) you will need to use a rubber hammer and tap it down to clear the FAST. Install it first though.

Probably because you have to do this with the LS6 intake as well. Shoot an e-mail/PM to Gene, he is usually on the forum over the weekends.

I just received my coolant pipe and plugs from Gene. He is a great source for decent price and quick shipping.

Also, make sure you have the valley cover cap bolts installed. If you keep the stock bolts you will crack the manifold when you tighten it down. The plenum is deeper that even an LS6 manifold.
Just making sure you've done this part.

They come with the intake new. If you bought used, most guys don't bother to remove them from their car. They have to be button head bolts and will look like the photo below. I don't think HD has them. Bolt depot (internet does) and you should be able to find them in a lot of places. The black one comes from FAST (they tend to rust). The others are stainless replacements I bought. I ended up painting the FAST ones silver though.

I think you can go with steel, just paint them up so they don't rust. If you can't find them locally, there is a place in Mass called bolt depot on line that has them but shipping to the left coast will take some time. Not sure what your time frame is.

I just went on the fast web site and ordered all new bolts. A little spendy, but it is all the bolts to install. Thanks for the help though. Randy
