Driving last night I was behind a semitruck on the back roads a good size rock hits my front windshield. There is a half inch round crack :mad I'm afraid it may spider out. How much to replace the windshield and can i claim on insurance? :cry
Yes, your insurance should cover it. How much you will have to pay depends on the deductable on your comprehensive.
If a rock comes out of a truck, and damages your car you should try to get the license number or any information about the owner, they usually pay for any such damage they cause. If you have deductable, that could be important to you.

A new HUD windshield cost about $2500!
Gajeebs! $2500 for the HUD windshield! I was actually driving pretty fast on the backroads to relieve some stress :blueangel: and was catching up to the truck pretty quick. Suddenly I heard a pop and so I swerved to my left as a instictive reaction. I should have written down the plates. :(
I know the feeling, going to Colorado last summer I got a ½" crack in my windshield from a truck going the other way!! What luck!! When I got back home 2 weeks later I had it repaired for free and it's been 15+ months since and it has not spread at all...but I can still see the crack. :( I just wasn't ready to have the windshield replaced on a 4 month old car and since then I have received several more rock chips in the windshield...I'll replace it someday though.
THEY won't pay for it. They call it road hazard and laugh at you. Your insurance company will however. They are expensive! Make sure you have a reputable company do the work, it's a PITA.
I'm on my third one! :cry
The glass company has been billing my insurance company about $1300 with a new window gasket!
I heard that the gasket is about $200 alone!
And I do have a HUD.
There are companies out there that can repair a cracked windshield as long as it isn't too big. I forget offhand what the largest size is. It would be a lot cheaper than replacement. You can probably do a internet search for windshield repair to get the name of the franchise company.

Ouch! Thats a bummer. How did you manage to go through 2 already
speedluvr- I'l keep that in mind if the insurance will not cover :blueangel:
I see you're in Jersey..if you want I could call my glass guy and see what he'd want to throw in a new one for ya. I usually get a great deal using my old shop's name, maybe it would be cheap enough to cover your deductible. Drop me an email if you're interested....

If a rock is kicked up from the tire it is considered road a hazard, if it falls from a vehicle it is considered a unsecure load and the truck is liable for the damages. At a very minimum get the license plate but if you can get them to pull over you can take a picture of their load/dirty trailer etc. if you keep a disposible camera in your glove box. A picture is worth a thousand words. :yesnod:
Vixen, I just looked back at this thread and see that I typo-ed the price of the windshield. They are around $1500, NOT $2500! Sorry to scare you more than nesc!
