When I am setting at an idle in my 98' convertible, I notice that especially at night that my headlights dim when the air pump engages. Is this a coincidence or is there possibly another issue that is causing this to happen? Is there anyone else who has run into this problem?

Reason: better title.
The air pump usually operates only for a short time at start up--it shouldn't continue to turn on/off after you stop and go underway--However it is normal for the pump to draw quite a few amps and it could dim your liights somewhat--It may point to other issues--such as a weak battery--weak aternator--or an air pump that has some restriction in the intake or output lines and is under a greater than normal load--
I believe the air pump also comes on after approximately 15 minutes of driving, just for a brief period, as part of a diagnostic check. As I said, I wouldn't worry about it. If the headlights were better on these cars, you wouldn't even notice it.
