Default Keyless entry distance

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Bought a '98 Pace Car in August and have been enjoying it immensely. I've noticed that my remotes do not have a very long range. In fact, with the passive feature on, the range is so low that the doors lock while the key is in the ignition. Of course, the range is a lot farther when I am working in the shop anywhere near the car and the doors keep locking and unlocking. Even with the passive off I still have to be within a few feet and on the driver's side of the car to activate the system. Was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience and could provide a simple solution. I tried changing batteries with no affect.
Thanks,
Bill

Yea the passive mode can be a bit tiresome. When I'm cleaning it in
the garage of course my keys are near by. The thing was always locking
unlocking-horn honking. Memo to myself: Just say no to passive

Otherwise my range is about 30-40ft. :)

How long before they loose power? I remember my 94 lost a lot of range by the 3rd year. Now I can be about 50 ft.

Turn off the passive..you can replace the battery..at radio shack.. they are cheap.. also..I tested this.... if you are over 100 feet away... if you lift your arm straight up and hit unlock you will see that the height of the fob has a def. effect on the range.. Im not saying you have to raise you arm but see what I mean..

I have less than 10' of range. On my Camaro I can unlock it from 50' or more. Have unlocked and locked it from my hotel room on a higher than 2nd floor on several occasions from 200-300' away. The Corvette for some reason just doesn't work past about 10' no matter what I do. Even lifting my arm in the air doesn't help much. Like I said, with the passive system on and the key in the ignition, it will lock and unlock the doors indicating that it is out of range at less than 5'. Not sure whether there is an antenna mounted to the receiver in the car or not. I'm looking for a way to extend the range.
Thanks,
Bill

My frc y2k is the same way. I have a 2000pickup, that works a 100yards away. I have changed batterys in the vett key transmitter and it still won't work when you get 20 or 30 feet away. That must be the way all of them are.

The range is really poor on these things plus it's very sensitive to the direction from which you're approaching the car. One would think that with a composite body, and therefore, relatively little metal to interfere, the range would be significant. My Explorer standard lock opener has huge range compared to the Vette and is non-dependent on direction. In addition, my remote start for the Explorer has a 3 block range...great for Minnesota winters.:) Chevrolet must have tried to equalize the range between the remote and the key for the Corvette.:D
