2001 c5 fuel gage reads fine until 3/8 of a tank is left. Gage needle will go to "E". Then when there is 1/8 of a tank left it starts working again. Always used the good gas as well as added Techron. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
The normal problem is sulfur build up on the fuel tank sensors causing bad readings at the gauge. The full fix, if Techron doesn't fix it, is to drop the tanks and change the sensors. Its a long job It m ay be worth persisting with the Techron for a while to see if you can clean it up
I had the same problem. I tried multiple bottles of Techron and Seafoam with no results. Someone on this board suggested I reset the PCM. Have not had a problem since.

Thanks for the reference. I am aware of how to reset or erase the codes. I though your were referring to some type of "re-flash".
But what the heck I will try the reset route.
A very common problem with the C5, I have used Seafoam and Techron both available at Wally World, cleaned up my problem. Make sure to always use a top tier gasoline.
You may have to use several bottles. If that doesn't work check the ground or it could be bad sending units which aren't cheap to replace.
There is also a GM software/firmware update for the onboard systems for the fuel gauge. I too was having issues and getting a specific code for the right tank sending unit. After the software update, no more problem.

How do you get "firmware update". I kind of assume you go the the dealer and he hooks up your car to his computer and downloads the data.
If this is the case what would be the usual cost of this service.
They charged me an hour of labor, $84, to do the updates that I provided to them...part number wise from the GM TIS system http://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web
