Installing a cam in an LS-1 is the easiest cam swap Ive ever done. I bought my cam kit for 700ish and the labor would have been 1200 bucks. Did it myself and bought a stall converter. On the LS-1 you dont even need to take the intake off. You older guys remember the old small blocks huh? Tell me you never got the distributor 180 off..... Do it all yourself!
Holy Crap....If I'd known that, I would have done it a long time ago. I was under the impression that the engine needed to come out for clearence.
question#1: what exactly is in the cam kit?
question#2: are there any special tools required to install the cam kit?
What I meant by cam kit was, cam, springs, Ti retainers. I bought the rods you slide in the motor to keep the lifters up and a really nice spring tool, you can do two springs at once. Some guys used wood dowels to hold the lifters up but I didnt want to go that route. This cam swap wasnt on a Vette, it was a 98 F-body. A member from TX actually ended up with the car. I havent researched the swap on the Vette but Im sure the motor can stay put. I made an air fitting to screw into the plug holes to hold the valves up while I swapped the springs and retainers. Someone correct me if Im wrong about the swap in a vette. I think there is a little R&R on the vette, like steering rack & Pump.
Wait, I just realized your being a smart *** huh, Im slow sometimes, sorry

Reason: more info
Hey I just got back in town and online. Wow, THANKS a ton for all of the replies! I hear ya on the do-it-yourself to save $$$, but I'd be a little out of my league on that I think?! It sounds like Headers, CAI, CAM tune and then save up for more stuff later - gears/stall, etc. I'm going to start surfing for options and then call the shop and see what I can do. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again for all of the input!
