Default Spraying in 5th gear.

Hello,
I have a 100 shot on my car and was wondering if anyone with N2O was spraying in 5th gear? I've never done it because I dont want to harn the motor. I was told that it puts a big load on the motor. Any thoughts? Car is an 02 Z06 w/H/C, full bolt on's, and 100 shot btw.

Thanks

I would but I don't see many posts concerning N2O in that section. Mods, feel free to move this.

I know nothing about NOS and have never used it therefore I'm certainly no expert. But, applying that much mechanical force from the sudden change in power to the engine via the trans in such a high gear....don't know, but it sounds like a receipt for a broken engine as in the rods. I have this terribly simple view in my mind that if you create the power, its got to go somewhere and the resulting torque in 5th gear....something isn't going to like it.

There are guys that do it constantly on these high speed runs. Watch your AFR. I've sprayed on mine (A4 though) quite a ways but never into OD. (ran out of road)

3000 rpm in 5th is already a LOT of mph. I'm betting you know it's bad karma to spray below 3000 rpm. Soooooooooooo, if you get up to 3000 rpm and then hit the spray, I'd think you might want to have supplemental oxygen 'cuz that bad boy is headed for orbit.

you never want to spray in an overdrive gear and you never want to spray too low in the RPM. I'll tell you a simple reason why...

unless you have a progressive setup or multipal stages the amount of n2o you are spraying is constant throughout the RPM range. So for example if you have a shot thats jetted to make 75hp @ 6k RPM and you decide to spray that shot @ 3k RPM instead of 6k you will be doubling the amount of n2o that goes into the combustion chambers because there are half as many combustion cycles that occur @ 3k RPM as there are @ 6k RPM (750 cycles vs. 1500 cycles). Thats why n2o makes so much tq down and its also the reason why people run multi staged kits and progressive controllers.

for spraying in an overdrive gear the concept is the same except that the engine isn't able to move thru the RPM as fast as it would in the drive gears (1-4). So that puts a tremendus amount of stress on the motor to try and move that much air (n2o) & fuel thru the engine for a long period of time, thats when plugs start to melt and ringlands begin to crack.

1-3rd gear are so quick usually that unless something is really wrong with your n2o setup nothing breaks in the motor (driveline is a different story). 4th gear however, since its usually the tallest drive gear, is where you will test the strength of your motor with n2o.

If you mean "give up easily"....no I guess I don't. While the NOS posts pale in comparison to the FI posts in the FI forum, there are dozens of replies contained in the threads I posted from guys who are spraying. If the OP PM's some of these guys, surely one of them can lead him in the right direction or answer his question.
