Alright, so were taking our vette on a 2000 mile road trip in 2 months, i have a 2000 coupe 6 speed, and always have black specks on the back of the car, its very annoying and im not going to get to wash my car till i get to our destination most likely. I have heard people talking about putting on ls6 intakes and something about the oil valley being the major problem on why it sucks so much oil into the intake or am i wrong? can someone let me know exactly what i need to buy/do to remedy this problem before i go? not sure if it matters but i have a k&n, long tube headers, x pipe and bb bullets for exhaust. Help much appreciated!!!!!!!
It sounds like you vette is running rich, headers and air intake change the adaptive strategy the PCM was designed for. Find a knowledgeable tuner or friend with tuning software to run a scan log and to correct the problem. The catch can fix is mainly for high rpm's, the exhaust if from too rich a mixture.
so if its running too rich could i just get one of those hand held tuners? or do i have to have an actual tuner tune it? I also have bigger injectors because the car was supercharged right before i bought it. If it is as simple as getting a hand held tuner, which would be the best route?
Unless you take the car for a 20 minute log run or have access to a load bearing dyno, you are just guessing at solutions. By trial and error you might get it reasonably close. A hand held usually has a street tune under defined settings and usually is adequate for a stock car. With your injectors, headers, etc. you have changed enough variables that you should really log for these changes. It will tell you duty cycle, fuel trims, etc. More than likely you have 42 lb injectors and running less than 50% duty cycle. A scan can tell whether you should sell the injectors or weather then can be scaled back to a streetable setting.
is there anybody in the wisconsin area to do such a tune? about how much does it cost? I have access to a dyno, so i suppose a handheld would help me then? The injectors in my car say ford on them...they have green tops if that tells you anything.
