Default Still No crank

I got a variable resistor and dialed in the following values and tested it out with no luck

1 392 my values 394
2 523 526
3 681 690
4 887 873
5 1.13k 1106
6 1.47k 1491
7 1.87k 1861
8 2.37k 2374
9 3.01k 3011
10 3.74k 3.70K
11 4.75k 4.72K
12 6.04k 6.04K
13 7.5K I have this key
14 9.53k 9.54K
15 11.80k 11.01K

Each resistance value seems to have the same effect. Plug the key in no security light. Turn key to on, chimes chime, guages do a test sweep a few DIC messages are displayed 'reduced power', 'low fuel' etc. Security light then flashes, check gauges light is lit and tract control. When I turn the key to start all the lights go out and nothing else happens. If I have the right value when I just plug the key in does the security light come on?

I'd be interested in what happens when the Vats connector is disconnected and you stick the key in the ignition what happens? Messages light etc.

There are 2 "security" systems in the car - Content Theft Deterence (CTD) and Vehicle Theft Deterrence (VTD). The CTD is in control when there is no key in the ignition lock - it is the system that sounds the horn and flashes the lights if someone "breaks into" the car. If the SECURITY light is on or flashing with no key in the ignition, or with a key, but in the OFF position, it is the CTD system at work. If the CTD is in alarm status, the BCM will inhibit engine start.

Once you turn the key to ON, the SECURITY lamp is now showing the status of the VTD system. If you are getting either a solid or blinking SECURITY lamp with the key turned to ON, the VTD is what is inhibiting engine start.

Did you wait AT LEAST 3 MINUTES between testing each resistance ?? The BCM goes into a 3 minute timeout after it sees a "bad" resistor reading. If you disconnect power to the BCM during the timeout, the 3 minute timer starts all over again on power up.

Also, the resistance has to be pretty accurate, are you certain the variable resistor was accurate (test with your Digital Meter) ??

Busta,

I just re-read your initial post. In it you said the engine will run if you supply power directly to the starter ??? If I'm reading that correctly, that means the PCM has received the correct "password" from the BCM to allow fuel delivery to the engine. I'm sorry that I may have missed this point before..... but the engine will run indefinately once you get it started ???

Default no crank

The measurements I posted were from a calibrated Fluke Digital Multimeter. I believe the measurements were within the +-10%. All of the tests so far have been without enabling the alarm via key fob I don't have doors or a working key fob.

I only get the flashing security light when I turn the key to on. When I mentioned that I can get it to run via 12v to the solenoid I had only given it spray of gas into the tb. It did run continuously and burned off the gas so only for a few seconds. I just figured this would help eliminate a few things?

I will retry the resistors one more time just to be sure.
