Default My 400rwhp goal

I had a goal when I bought my 2000 C5 to reach 400rwhp. Now that my bank account is building back up I can start modding. A local shop has a set of 243 Casting LS6 heads for a pretty good price I'm thinking of picking up. Would these heads, LS6 intake, good aggressive cam, LT's and X-pipe and tune reach 400rwhp?

You should be able to get 400 rwhp rather easily with those heads, full exhaust, tune, and a medium range cam (228° or so). Warning - once you start, you will not look back. Don't forget a clutch (or stall converter) which will soon follow...

I think your going to come close anyway. You should have the heads ported, and you will need to go a little aggressive on the cam, nothing smaller than 228/228. Anything less...and you will be wishing you went bigger.

Semi beefy cam, stock 243's, LT's... should bring you right around the 400rwhp your looking for. Port the 243's and you won't have to wonder.

Aye - I went with a mildly hand ported set of 243's, LS6 intake, all the valve train goodies and a Torquer V2 232/234 cam along with long tubes, x-pipe, Vararam, and a good tune. I made just over 400 through a 4.10 rear on a mustang dyno. Find a good tuner int he area and talk to him about what your goals are and what you need to get there...

I'd say it's a slam dunk with the 243's , a 228 cam, cai, headers and a good tune.

Hell, I made 369whp with 241 heads, a 220 cam, a k&n filter and no other mods (ZERO). A 228 cam and headers might have hit 400.

Don't get hung up on some big cam. See my sig.
400 seems to be easy with the LS6 heads you will most likely be @425+
Grab some gears BEFORE you do the clutch and do them together.

BTW-You should change you avitar.

I have same setup as suggested above:

224/228 cam

equals - 410/415 RWHP

Good driveability and performance.

Would gears really be necessary? It'll only see the track once or twice a year.....until I pick up a beater.

If you do gears the same time you do your clutch you will save on labor costs. Your stock clutch is not going to be able to take a beating with a 400+rwhp motor.

Gears aren't necessary, but they are a lot of fun.

Definitely. The car won't see a strip again, 400hp or not, until I get a new clutch. Any recommendations? I don't have a lot of traffic were I live, so clamping force and longevity is preferred over street-ability.

243 heads, 224/224 (.567) cam, LG Street headers, LS6 Intake, Bullets and underdrive pulley got me to 396 rwhp (with 4.10s)

Since, dumped the headers ( ), swapped Bullets for Ti's, put LS1 intake back on and now have a much more enjoyable 378 rwhp and some money in my pocket.

400 RWHP.....
I'll bet you'll want more once you get there.
Maybe 425...then 450.
Just keep it below 500.

Textralia OZ-700 gets a lot of good reviews. They are pricey but you may want to look into them.

You should get there depending on cam size. I would get the heads ported that way you can have a mild cam and put out the numbers you want. If your leaving the heads stock then just go a little bigger on your cam choice.

Default my 400rwhp goal

I have been thinking about getting to the 400rwhp goal also

I've got 372rwhp 353tq with these mods:
blackwing, ls6 intake, z06 cam, american racing headers, hi flow cat, ported ls1 heads and tune

Did some research and found that with ls6 heads you need a center bolt valve cover and different coil brackets. Now somebody correct me if that's wrong but saw that about a week ago on here. That's just something I hadn't seen before.

I do agree that a 224/228 cam and ls6 heads will get 400
That 224/228 cam and ported polished ls1 heads may do it also but if you ever want more than 400 get the ls6 heads.

I went back a couple of weeks and found that post about the valve covers and coil brackets. This guy had a 98 vette so you with a 2000 you won't need that stuff. Think 98's had a different casting #.
