Default Help - removing upper radiator shroud

Help! Looking for a trick to remove those stupid little push lock rings that are pushed on the plastic stud from the ac condensor. I've got everything else removed, but I cannot for the life of me get these off.

There's no freakin room to get in there to remove them I'm about to start hacking the shroud up just to get it out!

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Default Rings..........

I just removed my fan shroud and when I went to remove the metal clip/rings is when I called it a night. Then, the next day. I took a long-handled screw driver (from the top) and pryed in between the fan shroud and metal thing behind the shroud and the clips and white plastic/nylon stud popped right off together, still in tact. Once they are out, you can get up close and pry the clips off of them. The white nylon stud can be re-inserted in the hole you pryed it out of and the metal rings are a lot easier to install than remove.

By the way, if you're getting rid of your shroud I will buy it from you.

You dont actually need them. They were used on the assembly line to hold the shroud in place while the car was going together

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up just pulling on the plastic stud and they pulled thru the condenser bracket. They both appear to have broken. Oh well. I hadn't seen any suggestions up to that point and was running out of day light and patience... Heck I even tried cutting the shroud up to get it out, but couldn't get close enough to do more than make some superficial cuts.

The shroud was cut previously for a Vortec Rammer. Do you still want it? I can take pics of it if you want.

It just now occured to me to use tie-wraps through the holes for easier access in the future. My ac condenser was pretty packed with crap.

Thanks, but no thanks.

You didn't ruin the white nylon plugs. That's the way they are designed. They are made to screw back in the condenser bracket hole.

Good luck with the trash clean-out project.

Mine broke on removal. I bought two new ones from Autozone and use them as an alignment only. I don't re-install the metal nut as the top and bottom hold in place fine and I usually end up pulling it apart frequently enough I don't want to deal with them again.

Interesting, didn't even occur to me that the "broken" plastic stud wasn't actually broken. I'll have to check that out. It's raining like a mad dog today and I've actually got a more concerning problem... I'll start a new thread.

btw - madelko, I figured you were looking for an intact shroud. I suppose I could package this shroud with the Rammer although it'll make the box pretty big... anyway, I'm going to sell the Rammer once I get everything dialed in.
