Well, had a little off road fun the other day (ok wasn't fun at all) but swerved to avoid a dog, and being very cold with no traction the car went sideways and ended up going off the shoulder. Luckily I didn't hit anything, but it jolted the car pretty good (very uneven shoulder) Anyway, since then when we take the car out the temp goes up to like 230-240 and one night it was at about 250. It does go back down and stays at normal temp after driving for a bit, but it's just weird that it does that initially. Any thought's on what it might be? This is on our 02 Z06. Thanks
Offroad meaning what? Sliding over dirt and grass? If so, your radiator and condensor are probably clogged with crap in the cooling fins....
Not an easy-to-solve dilemma, though not horrible either. Get under the front scoop and look up.... if there is a boat-load of garbage, you're gonna have to do the garden hose-right angle compressed air repair.... or pull it all out and go over it surgically (the only right way). I have had to do this three times now. Very common issue and it is worse when your car is lowered as far as mine is.
Do NOT (and I mean no way, don't even think about it) use a pressure washer on them.... it will probably bend the cooling fins beyond proper repair.
I agree with these guys.
I would also check to ensure your fans are working properly. Once your coolant hits 232 degrees or so, your fans should be coming on. If they aren't, then that would be your problem.
Well maybe this weekend I'll get the water hose out and try to clean it. I have lifted it and looked underneath and cleaned as much as I could, but I guess I'll try to clean it better.
