My car will not start. I have a 2001 C5 with an automatic transmission and 65,000 miles. All the electronics come on when the key is turned on, but the engine will not even turn over. There is a clicking noise behind the glove compartment. At first I thought it was the battery, but I had it tested and that's not the problem. I've done some research and found that the ignition cylinder has wires in it that read the fob on the key which allows the engine to start and after continuous cranking the wires get bent out of shape and thus will not work anymore. Is this correct or could it be another problem?
If the clicking noise is continuous while trying to crank, then it's likely low voltage at the starter (could be bad battery, wiring, couple different things.... ) the clicking would be the solenoid trying to engage and is rather rapid sounding..
if it's a different click (one time each crank cycle) then i don't know..

no sir i had the problem with the ignition cylinder and the car would simply do nothing....all lights would come on but no clicking your issue might be a bad key. Mine went bad because i wet it..i took it diving! got a new key and it fixed the problem. Does your security light blink on stay on fixed. I remeber way back when my vette has that starting issue once i tried to start it three times unsucessfully (because the chip in the key was bad) i beleive it took about a 15 minut wait time to try again. Correct me guys if i am wrong but three unsucccesful tries to start the car due to the shipo being bad or a bad cylinder causes the security system to prevent start up for 15 minuts. I say try a diffent key and see what it does. I think your security system is screwing up somewhere. my vette had 100,000 miles when this happened by the way now i am at 150,000 no problems
If the key fails the VATS test, the BCM runs a 3 minute timer before it will test the key again. During that time, turning the key will do nothing. Disconnecting the battery will not stop the timer, in fact, the BCM will start at 3 minutes timeout when the battery is re-connected, regardless of where it was in the timer when power was dropped.
