Default Kirban shifter modification

I recently went to install my new Kirban shift **** on my Kirban shifter and was disapointed on how "tall" my shifter **** had become. The kirban **** comes with a trick threaded locking collar that I liked, but it contributed to the increased **** height. The Kirban **** is drilled almost through, but is only tapped halfway.

My previous **** was a MBA products **** that was designed to sit very low on the shaft. The MBA **** is drilled almost through, with threads only at the top end of the ****.

I decided to modify my Kirban **** and shifter shaft to achieve the same **** height. I cut 1 inch longer threads onto my shifter shaft and I cut .5 inch longer threads into my ****. I bought a 9/16 x 18 tap and die at ACE hardware. They were the only place I could find these sizes. I ground the end of the tap to convert it into a bottom tap. I clamped the tap into a vice and then used hand power to slowly cut threads into the ****.

I really like this new ****. It is a high polish **** with a 6 speed pattern on it. It is also a smaller diameter than the MBA **** which I felt was too big. It also does not get as hot in the sun as the black anodized MBA ****.
