Default Drls ?

Is there an easy way to turn off the damn DRLS in a C5 I did a search on the site and found 1 post about a C6 but not a C5. The trucks are easy pull the fuse but with the BCM controlling the light what do you do

I Hate the way it looks especially on the track (pics) with the DRLS on.

Here is how to disable them permanently and it is reversible and does not affect the operation of any other lights.

1. In the passenger foot well, lower the front carpet.
2. Remove the foot panel.
3. Locate the IPEC (Instrument Panel Electrical Center) it looks like the fuse box next to the battery.
4. Remove the cover of the IPEC.
5. Turn it over and find the diagram of the components.
6. Locate relays 38 and 40. (38 controls the right DRL and 40 the left)
7. Pull each relay and carefully remove the cover.
8. Insert some type of insulator between the relay contacts (matchbook cover cardboard or the plastic from a coffee can lid works well) that you have cut to fit.
9. Replace relay cover, replace relay, replace IPEC cover, and replace the foot well.
10. DONE!!

You should be able to pull up parking brake one or two clicks.

There is also a fuse you can pull, not sure what number, and all you lose is the parking lights flash when you lock car.

You'll get the emergency brake light if you pull it up a couple of clicks and if you pull the fuse you'll disable the approach lights.

What I posted above was from another forum member and it works without causing any other problems.

ajg1915, Thank you very much I will try that this week. It sounds like just what I was hoping to do.

The easy way is to pull the A2 fuse on the engine bay panel but as ajg1915 says you'll lose the approach lights function although the reversing lights will still work. You'll also get a couple of codes.

The relay mod is the best way which is what i did. There's a full write up with pics in C5 Tech

Anyone know what kind of wire connectors are needed for that jumper wire to connect well where the relays plug in? Does someone sell a jumper kit of some kind?

I did fuse 2 as well. What are approach lights? My foglights come on when I unlock my car with the FOB.

Approach lights are front fogs and rear back-ups + marker lighting.

I'm not sure what fuse 2 does ?? What year car do you have ?

Fuse 2 is a monitored (inadvertent) load control - whatever the heck that means.

Its the A2 fuse on the engine fuse block you need to pull for the temporary fix (Approach lights). The #2 fuse on the footwell panel is the inadvertent load.

I did the relay mod to permanently disable them when I came back to UK
