WrongOutside Temperture on LED readout
I have started getting a -32F degree readout. Heat wants to come on badly. Not good in Florida when it's already hot outside. The temp will rise after about 5 mins and get to 40F something which will let the A/C come onif neded. Is this my outside temp probe or something in the climate control unit? Any help would be appeciated.
It's definetely the outside temp sensor. It's located down in front of the radiator on the right side, you can see it with the hood open. It just plugs in and is easy to change. Also, it's fairly inexpensive, around the $10 range. I've had it happen to me. When it does you can't properly control the HVAC system.
99 percent chance it is the outside air temperature (OAT) sensor. New one is GM part number 10248414 ... GM list price is $10.17 ... so not exactly a budget breaker.
If this helps ... from another post .....
Disconnect the sensor. You should get DTC B0333 Outside Air Temp Sensor Open, and the temp display should default to 65*F. This would tell you that there are no shorts in the wiring harness/connector.
Short the sensor connector - this won't blow anything. You should get DTC B0332 Outside Air Temp Sensor Short to Ground, and the temp display should default to 65*F. This will confirm that there are no random impedances in the circuit.
Measure the impedance of the sensor itself. At 68*F, it should measure 12,493 ohms. At 86*F/8,056 ohms, 104*F/5327 ohms. That should be enough to verify it's within its expected range
Also ... IMPORTANT .... You need to drive the car after you replace the sensor for AT LEAST 2 minutes for the system to read the new sensor. Otherwise, after you replace the sensor the temperature displayed, until you drive for a few minutes, is what was "in memory" when the engine last shut off.

Thanks for the help. wanted to make fairly sure before just changing parts till I figured it out. This one time though I wished it was in the climate control since I am changing it out anyway because of burnt out lights. Ahhh the story of the Vette... Thanks again!

I like this! Not too many people understand that a good part and a bad part has readings. This info is so hard to find most of the time. I generally like to know why something is bad or not quite right. I have had parts read right until power is put to it. Gives a ghost in the machine appearance. Fuses come to mind...

I had to turn around and go back for a 50 dollar harness for the plug that rusted out the connections.
Yeah i got bent over on that one
Good advice... I get bent too easy as it is. I try to avoid any additional stress by trying to plan the best I can. Doesn't work most of the time especially dealing with the dealership.
