I recently purchased a 99 FRC. Seller said FOB needed battery. I replaced the Battery but still didn't work. Found this procedure for reprogramming.
"Both remotes use a CR2450 coin type battery. I found replacement batteries at Office Depot. To replace, use a coin to wedge between the seam, and twist.
Ref: Service manual, page 8-747.
Fob Programming
1-Turn the ignition to RUN
2-Turn the radio off
3-Press the RESET button in order to clear any IPC warning messages
4-Press the Option button on the DIC until the IPC display is blank in order to enter the program mode
5-Press and hold the Reset button for 3 seconds
6-Press the option button until FOB Training message is displayed
7-Press the Reset button in order to begin the programming sequence.
8-Simultaneously press and hold the lock an unlock buttons on the first transmitter for 12 seconds. The IPC will indicate when that transmitter is programmed and when to proceed to the next. Repeat this step for each transmitter."
My problem is that I can't get the DIC to display a FOB training message. Am I doing something wrong?

I have never used this procedure. I simply hold both buttons until the horn honks and I'm good to go...
I am getting a used transmitter soon and will have to do this again myself. It wil be a few days but I'll let you know what I end up doing.

Thanks! I finally figure that out. After doing the procedure it took about 5 minutes then suddenly it worked. Thanks for the owner's manual too! Is there a service manual available in .pdf format? I just bought one from a fellow member and it came in DVD+R format that my anciet computer won't open.

The factory FOB is a total POS.....I junked mine over 4 years ago in favor of a Clifford security system....It has worked flawlessly, never needs a resync and it pops the gas flap from the remote. It also alerts you to an unauthorized entry from hundreds of feet away. I keep the spare remote on a hook next to my bed..... anyone messing with my car will quickly see the business end of my 12 gauge Benelli.
If you want a system that works....all the time..... junk the factory system and check out the Clifford.

Where they are selling new batteries they have a cardboard display with a receiver detecting rf from key fobs. If it WORKS then go program it via the owners manual instructions. If not open it up and look for obvious problems like broken solder joints. Finally get another one from fleebay or another vendor. For the 97-00 C5s the FCCID is ABO0216T. Sometimes on fleebay they call it AB00216T. Do a search there or in the parts section here and go for the cheapest one that WORKS.
