lost a little power steering fluid during the engine work recently. i took my 99 owner's manual with me to the GM dealer and showed him the part# for power steering fluid (i don't have the number with me now), he said "oh thats an american number" and did a crossreference, then he said, oh and this number no longer exists, this is the new one.. then he checked and didn't have any in stock, but he brought out one "close"... I figured I'd check it out on corvette forum before buying... he said "to us power steering fluid is power steering fluid". I thought that was an odd thing to hear a GM part's salesman say...

so, what do you guys say is there a special requirement?

I use Valvoline Syn Tech, can purchase in many auto parts stores across the country.

You don't need to pay for "Genuine GM parts". Buy a good quality fluid at an auto parts store. I use the Valvoline Syn Tech also.
