Default Jack for my C5

I need a new jack for my C5 (and X5). I'd like to keep it under $200. What do you guys use?

I bought me a low profile jack from Harbor Freight, it was $80 and very light weight. I dont think it will work on your X5. But that oneworks well for C5's. Good Luck!

I bought my low profile jack at good ol' Wal-Mart. I think it was $30 or $40. Just make sure it gets low enough to fit under the Vette--mine drops down to 3.5" and extends up to 14.5" and is rated up to 5000 lbs. Used it lots of times with no problems.

C5Frederick, a German Forum member found a Mercedes jack that works well

Heres a post he made:
It's made of aluminum , weighs about 2 lbs and fits under a lowered vette, doesn´t need extra pucks because it has a plastic top. It can lift one ton, folded it fits into the rear right hole in the rear compartment. It is OEM Mercedes lift out of the new C-Class, Part Number is A 203 583 03 15 The price here in Germany is 55 $, don´t know if it´s more
expensive in US

I also bought the $35 one from Wal-Mart. I haven't had it long, but the 3.5 inches is low enough that I can fit it with a hockey puck on it under my lowered C5. I can't reach the cross member with it but I can reach the jacking points.

Can't be the price! It is called the "Black Jack".

I'm assuming you want a jack for your garage/shop rather than something for the trunk. If the latter, both Mazda RX7 and Porsche use an all aluminum scissors jack that weighs about 3# and collapses down to approx. 3 1/2". It uses an off set cranking handle to lift. I carry one in my trunk all the time.
If you're asking about a garage/shop low profile jack, COSTCO has (probably off shore made) an all aluminum trolley floor jack. It weighs about 50# and is very low profile.

Here's one to match your Vette. I've got one one of these, only silver. Have had it about 8 years. Still is a very good jack.

. I have that one for low profile stuff and a big heavy steel one for serious lifting. Both work great but always use a back up like jackstands of course .
Costco has a nice heavy duty aluminum low-profile one for $100 that looks nice.

Another vote for the Wally world "Black Jack".

I got the longer framed one (3.5 ton I think). It slides under my C5 with no issues. I think it's a 3.5" clearance.

$70 out the door. The drawbacks are it's a bit heavy for what it is, and it doesn't go very high. (I think 24"), but for the price I'm pretty happy.

Got a low profile from Harbor Freight for $49
I can put the front up on rino ramps, and still have space at the back. HF had a special on these jacks for a while, but worth looking into. Really nice jack.

At 2.5", this is about as low as they get, and Omega makes a nice jack

I use a NAPA low profile jack. works great. it's definetly not aluminum, but it's solid.
I started with a Walmart one, but you almost have to be under the car to lower it. scared the bejeebus out of me everytime I did it.

I went with a craftsman low profile aluminum jack. Lifts up to 2 tons and will fit under my C5 which is lowered all the way on stock bolts. Sells for $179.99 on sears.com.

I hope you have better luck with your Craftsman jack than I did. My Craftsman failed to maintain compression and provide lift after only 14 months of ownership with only intermittant use. Very dissappointed, but it turns out my experience is common with this particular jack - see "59 Reviews for a 1.7 out of 5.0".
