Hopefully, someone can point me in the right direction and I can avoid the dealership. Got in car, fired it up, and got these messages across the DIC
"Service Ride Control"
"Service Vehicle Soon"
"Shocks Inoperative"
"Maximum Speed 80 MPH"
The following codes set:
P1571 ASR Desired Torque
P1644 Delivered Torque Output Circuit
P1652 Powertrain Induced Chassis Pitch Output Circuit
TCS - NO COMM
RTD - NO COMM
B0844 BCM Temporarily Inhibit ABS
I went ahead and drove the car home, only it would cut out at 80 MPH just as the DIC said it would.
As a side note, the code P1571 always sets as a history code but I never had in problems with the car. Its been like that for over a year now. I would clear it out and then later I'd check for any codes just for the heck of it and it would be back again. Like I said, it would never come up with any messages on the DIC.....until now along with all the other codes. I know most if not all the codes are interrelated somehow and there is probably just one thing that is screwed up causing all of these codes to set. Any suggestions guys?????  Thanks a mint!!
Re: Help withCode Diagnosis..WHAT THE ????? (MikeyD)
Yowsa! Are they all current codes?
I'm no expert, but it looks like somethings wrong with the Traction control - seems like no communication - I wonder if you had a connector come loose or something?
You could check the connections going to the computer in the footwell.
I had a loose connection under the under-hood fuse box and set every code and warning there was
Re: Help withCode Diagnosis..WHAT THE ????? (MikeyD)
All the messages are a result of a fault with the ride control...Sounds like a trip to the dealer...The 1571 code is a normal software "glitch" code on the 97
and does not indicate a fault unless the check engine light is accompanied with it...
Re: Help withCode Diagnosis..WHAT THE ????? (C-5 TECH)
C-5 TECH, question, I had a question for you, went to your site, and tried to enter your guest log, and find a place to ASK the question..........but.........I couldn't get it to work....probably me.......but, ????
Still have the question..............about a Z06, can you help..........Thanks
Re: Help withCode Diagnosis..WHAT THE ????? (C-5 TECH)
Thanks C-5 tech. Glad to here about the software glitch on the P1571. I always wondered about that one. I just went out after about two hours and started the car up. Everything was O.K. then. Cleared all the codes and they stayed cleared. I haven't driven it yet, but everything is indicating fine just setting there. Yellow01, you might have something there. I'm thinkin theres a short somewhere or like you said, a connector maybe loose or corroded terminals. I'll just drive it until it happens again. We have a local library that has all of the service manuals for cars and I remember finding somewhere a troubleshooting section that actually detailed the step by step diagnosis for particular code settings. It gets right down to the voltage and resistance readings on the wheel sensor outputs, etc. Man, what'd I give to have that manual at home! Where can a guy get that manual?? I don't remember the specific name of it but I believe it was the official GM tech manual. Would these be the same manuals that I see advertised every once in while on the forum? I know there are some expensive manuals out there that doesn't get into that great a detail on troubleshooting.
Re: Help withCode Diagnosis..WHAT THE ????? (MikeyD)
Mikey, I got a similar code a couple of weeks ago. I got the shocks inoperative, service vehicle soon and then the car died. I tried to restart & it died again. I took the key out for about 15 seconds, started it and it ran fine. It's been making some weird noises in the front end every now & then, but I can't find anything under the hood or car. I hate to take it in-our local dealer is clueless & even with the extended warranty, it will cost me.
During the regular warranty I got service traction system warnings several times & every time I took it in they couldn't find anything. Since it will now cost me the money I bet they'll find it.
Anyway, hopefully this won't reoccur for either of us and we can enjoy our 97s for many more years.
