In what way are C5 vettes sold in Calif different from vettes avail in Arizona? As far as smog equip, etc? I'm interested in a vette in Calif, but would it perform as well as an Az car? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

You don't say what model year car you are looking at, but the 2001 and later model year cars are 50 state legal ... that is ... there is no difference between a car built for sale in CA than in AZ. This may be true for earlier years, but I don't have that info in front of me. If it is a 2001 or later .... again .... no difference.

The car is a 2002, A4, so that is what I was questioning. Someone here in Phx stated that the Calif car would have more smog equip on it & would not perform as well. I was trying to determine if that was true.
Thanks
I have a '99 that was purchased here in Calif, Oct '98. As far as I know of, there isn't any differences in the smog equipment onboard. I could be wrong though. Same AIR pump as everyone else, same MAF and so on...

Thanks for the info, that's the stuff I needed to know. I found an '02 coupe, A4, mag red, blk int, cd chngr, HUD, 49k, etc. for a really good price, so I may rent a car & drive over & chk it out. Can't find an affordable one here in Phx, & even w/sales tax in Calif, would still be cheaper than what I can find here. If I don't like it, I'm only out 2 days rental + gas.
you WILL be paying the sales tax if bought in CA from another state UNLESS you choose to have the car shipped
this is from my experience, I may be wrong?
You pay sales tax and license fees ONLY if you will be registering the car in Calif. If you buy the car and drive it back to Arizona, and register it there, then you pay AZ whatever taxes/fees/etc. that AZ requires.
See the AZ DMV site for info on fees and paperwork ...
I would contact the AZ MVD and check what paperwork you will need. For example, will they accept the endorsed CA Certificate of Title from the seller, or do they need additional paperwork ??
The 2000 California Corvette had the "pup" quik light off converters plus the 2 under floor CATs. The pups were added to meet the new LEV standards set up by CARB in 2000. The 2000 California models were about 5 hp less than advertized. Though the pups were carried into 2001 the LS1 was changed in other ares , negating the pups power loss.
This info was taken from an press interview with John Juriga, Assistant Chief Engineer of the Gen 3 passenger car engines and Corvette Chief Engineer Dave Hill .
OH, if you buy from a dealer , you can NOT drive an unregistered car off any lot. If from a private party, take the paper work to AZ to reg.

You might be able to get a temp tag from AZ therefore allowing you to drive it there from CA. You really need to talk to your DMV MVD or whatever it is there before you come out here. The selling dealer here, might also be able to get you a temp tag.
I bought my C-6 from Rick Daniel at Les Stanford Chev. in Dearborn, MI and picked it up at the NCM. Rick was able to get me a temp MI Tag to drive it back to CA where it was registered for the first time.

QFT.
Starting 2001, all Corvettes produced met the requirements for all 50 states. So that means there were no "Kalifornia" special versions starting model year 2001.
