evans water pump users - do you have issues at idle?
i have a 25% underdriven crank pulley and 5.25 inch water pump pulley on the evans.
At idle after some street driving, if i get to a stop light, the temp goes up really fast to over 210. That is at idle. But if i raise RPM to 1500, temp quickly goes back down to under 180.
If you have evans, can you tell me what size crank pulley and water pump pulley you use? And if you have this issue?
One idea is for me to get a 10% pulley or stock pulley to replace my 25% crank pulley with.
I use water based normal coolant which is OK to use as per evans senior tech. I use 160 t-stat, fans on at 181 and off at 178.
Evans does not offer a smaller pulley than their 5.25 which is what I have already.
I have been researching aftermarket waterpumps for a while and have read (I don't have one) that the Evans needs to spin a certain RPM. If you have an UD you need a different pulley on the pump to keep the RPM's high enough at idle to prevent exactly what you are seeing. There was a recent post with the pulley part numbers (within the last week or two).
