Hit it once and that turns traction OFF, everything totally off, no electronic help. This will allow you to do whatever with the car and it will not interrupt at all.
Holding the button down will put you into Comp mode which will allow AH to work but turn the traction control off. Most people like this the best as it doesn't allow you to get squirly side to side if the tires do break loose.
If you like to pedal the car and really drive it with no aids just hit it once.
Just a reminder to be super careful if you turn it all off. These cars can get away from a good driver if you are not paying attention.

Not to hijack the original subject, but why the hell does the active handling button work backwards...???
What I mean, is that by pushing the button once, you should go into competitive driving mode, and by pushing and holding for 5-10sec, go into full AH disable. That's how almost evey other car with a similar system works.
Just seems stupid to me that chevy would design it so easy to effectively remove all the safety of AH so easily, yet make is so difficult to just shut off TC.

I'm GUESSING that Chevy did it this way to be "consistent" across all Corvettes ...... remember, not all C5's have AH ... it is an option (JL4) on some model/years
So, with a car that only has TC ... the traction button allows you to turn the system ON or OFF simply by pressing the button. (There is no COMPETITIVE mode on a car that only has TC).
So to remain consistent, pushing that same button on a car that has both AH and TC works the same ... the two systems turn ON or OFF together .....
If you want a "split" (Competitive Mode) system, you need to "request" that by holding the button down for 5 seconds .....
Seems perfectly logical to me ... especially because you do have a warnng when you turn the systems off.

A little-known feature for you raod racers with oil temperature concerns:
Select Oil Temp from the Gages button first. Then select Comp. Driving mode. Then hit Reset, and Oil Temp will again display, without affecting Comp. Mode.
Then try to cool down when you hit about 280 degrees!

You can hit reset after competitive mode is activated and access anything on the DIC without disabling competitive mode.
