Default Catalytic Converter question

hey guys.. im trying to peice together an exhaust system and have a few questions... I have corsa indy cat back and I want kooks headers.. im running a stock ls1... so should I look for 1-3/4 headers or 1-7/8 headers? also the intermediate pipes are soo dang expensive i was thinking about just getting separate parts ( X pipe and cats).. Ive seen high flow 3" cats by magnaflow and others all over ebay for 50-100 bux each.. and Xpipes on here for like 200... question is can i use kooks headers to generic 3 " cats and xpipe to cat back exhaust? thanks..

if you dont have to worry about emissions i would go catless or have a pretty straight through catback. my car blew the guts out of the cats and ended up clogging up my b&b route 66 catback. i have the kooks 1 7/8" headers with the catted x pipe. i believe the cats are magnaflows.

what kind of cats did you have theat blew apart? I just bought some cheap thunder bolt one's for $55. And putting TPIS headers on this weekend with those cats now you make me kind of worried.

Most research has told me that for a stock size LS1/LS6, go with 1 3/4". Only if you bump the cubes up do you need (or really want) 1 7/8".

Using larger pipes on a 346ci can actually hurt the scavanging effect of the headers.

We don't have any here yet, but with those I should pass with flying colors, I have the AIR and rear O2 sensors still on and functioning and my tune is dead on. I decided to keep it legal for resale...

When it comes to cats, don't go cheap . They won't pass smog after a couple of years and after that, they'll disintegrate.
