Default leak from where?

I discovered a few drops under the front of my 98 convert. This oderless oil is falling straight to the floor from the lower bolt of the thermostat. When I put hand under, it felt as if it were coming from behind the bottom side of the thermostat housing and falling from the lower bolt. It is definitely oil and not coolant. A ny ideas?

One thought - we get engine oil carried into our PCV systems and intake manifolds. A leak in those systems or piping could be allowing the accumulated oil to drip out the front of the engine...

I thought that also. I just did long tube headers so figured it was the pass side valve cover. Also had a leaking catch can which I just fixed. Dried everything off and came out to find a drop hanging from the lower therm bolt. Dont think it is valve caver either. Oil is oderless, not motor oil at all. Reminds me a lot like A/C oil. I once had the rear seals on the A/C leak and I fixed that with new seals. The oil I have leaking now is very similiar to that oil.

Well....you only have soo many possibilities here bro. Given the location: coolant or motor oil. Why not wipe it down, and pressure test the system? I'm not sure how compressor oil could migrate to that location, although I suppose a pin hole leak in a line could be possible ( it would have to be a pretty good shot).

Default Mysterious oil leak

I have the same problem and I have to believe it is compressor oil , although there is no specific leak I can trace it to. It must be from the compressor and blows out under high pressure now and then like a pressure relief. Just to be sure I give it an oil charge every other year . The oil is not motor oil ?? feels like refrigerant oil .. I have the same issue and gave up ?? If you find it let me know at Jrandazzo@tampabay.rr.com Thanks

Wiped it down totally. Drove for about 30 min or so and do not see anything yet. Starting to think that it may be old motor oil left over by the leaky catch can. Praying for that to be the case. It would have to pretty weird for the A/C compressor to spray up in such a way that the drop hangs off the lower bolt of the thermostat housing...
