My 2001 has 84,000 on it. As of the last few months, the suspension tends to squeek (front and rear) when I hit bumps and also I hear a muffled thud from the back upon acceleration from a stop or turning a corner.
I'm gonna put on some new shock, but what else should I be looking for as far as a suspension service? (FYI - I'm not looking to upgrade in any way, just want to bring it back to the feel of new).
Mine does it also, I believe that the swaybar bushings might be responsible. as for your thud, make sure you don't have something heavy in any of your compartments in the back.
Get some silicone spray and jam the red straw into the cracks and spray the crap out of them. I do this once a year and don't get squeaks, anymore. Takes a few minutes and it is very easy.
Or, take off the sway bar and clean up the bar and rubber.
its the sway bar bushings squeaking when they get dry. I get some silicone paste and smear it all over the inside of the bushing and reassemble, seems to last a couple years doing that.
As far as the thud, give your mufflers a good shake and listen for a thud or knock. The rubber insulator that they hang on could be worn out @ 8X,XXX miles, allowing them to hit the bottom of the car.
My new (to me) Z06 had the same squeak. I read this post yesterday, and thanks to the respondents, I sprayed it HEAVILY with silicone and wallah.. no more squeak. Thanks guys.
Thanks guys. Now here's a follow-up: Is there any benefit to replacing the bushings? Or is it more trouble than it's worth? I'm planning on keeping the car for a few more years, and I'd like to return it to feel like a new car ride as closely as possible.
I'm also considering putting on Z06 sway bars as well.
Also, I carry no weight in the back of the car. I was recently under the car to change out the tunnel plate so I will check the mufflers and exhaust. But the thud sound does sound more like a pop, as if something is torque-ing up then releasing. Could it also be my u-joints?
I took the 2 centers out(4 bolts and the bar will drop down) and spread the thick rubber bushings open and took a dremmel and cut 6 very small slits about 1/2 inch long and 1/32 deep in the middle of the bushing crosswise not to the edge around the bushing, this made a small place that would hold Molly wheel bearing grease!! Put it back together and it's been fine for 18,000 miles!!! Chevrolet replaced them twice before under warranty and they started squeaking within 3,000 miles!!Spray lube cant penetrate to the inside and they are very tight so they squeak!!When or if they start again,I'll pull it down and grease it again, it will take about 10 min.!!!

Sounds like a good idea however.. doesn't that same cut allow larger dirt particles to get in there and wear them faster?

Ok I done that and there is still squeek. Testing I removed the sway bar with bushings and it still squeeks. So what else?
Not a problem with the front,, they have exactly the same squeek as the rears. Not sway bar issues there. I agree with shocks but they are fully functional for the adjustable ride and the rubber is probably what is squeeking,, but how to fix without changing good shocks? At least I think it might be the shocks. Today I siliconed up the sway bar bushings and know for a fact they are lubed and the squeek had not changed. So shocks or Aframe bushings. But I have never had a A frame bushing squeek unless it was defective. All rubber suspension bushings look new. But top and bottom of the shocks I can't get to them unless I pull them out of the car. Just wondering if others had this issue and potential solutions. I know I could spend a few G's and change everything out,, but I would prefer to save the $$ since the shocks are still good. I am open to suggestions on this one.

1. New anti-roll bar bushings can't hurt. They're cheap enough. BTW, spread
some synthetic caliper grease inside them. It tends to last a good
long time. Sold in almost all auto parts stores. Look for Sta-Lube
brand Brake Caliper Synthetic Grease. It contains moly, graphite
and Teflon.
2. I think you will love the C5Z bars. I recommend them.
3. There are no u-joints on a C5. The "pop" sound you're hearing
sounds very much like a minor issue involving the rear axle
splines where they pass through the wheel hub/axle bearing
area. Do a search on this. Much has been posted. The fix is not
bad and (best of all) not expensive either.
