It's my understanding that starting in I think model year 2001, GM put a less aggressive cam in the LS1 (compared to the previous years) and added the pre-cats. This was to meet EPA regulations.
To offset the decrease in power because of the changes, they made some changes to the intake air flow. This resulted in an overall change of 5 net hp increase, ala 350hp instead of 345hp. Therefore, I've heard that a 2001 or 2002 LS1 Vette will see a much larger hp/tq increase by going to a more aggressive cam versus the pre-2001 LS1s.
Sorry, I wasn't trying to say that you couldn't do it on a pre-2001 Vette, I was saying that I heard you would get an even better performance gain on a 2001-current LS1 Corvette.
Is that true... about the change to a less aggressive stock cam in 2001 Corvettes (LS1 engine)?
With stock heads you are dreaming when thinking of 11:9's. Reality is more like 12:9's with stock heads and street tires. If running in the mid west with high humidity and 90 degree temperatures such as Beach Bend at the Memorial Day Cruise In, you will be doing really well to break out of the 13's.
Whiteboy :chevy
Hey whiteboy - all cars/drivers are not created alike. I am running mid-12's as is (around 330 rwhp), so 11.9x's are not out of the question with a 50-60 rwhp boost. 2001 Z06's are doing high 11's with 350 rwhp.......
Just like you only have 386 rwhp with your heads/cam package while many others have 430 rwhp with heads and cam.....can't wait to match your #'s with stock heads and a cam!!
